Government of Canada invests in Gervais Farms LTD

Saint-André, New Brunswick September 20, 2013

The Governments of Canada and New Brunswick today announced investments in Gervais Farms LTD for improvements to their seed potato processing and shipping operation in Saint-André.

Mike Allen, MP for Tobique-Mactaquac, and Minister Danny Soucy joined Les Fermes Gervais Ltée officials to announce investments in equipment upgrades at the facility.

“Our Government recognizes that small and medium-sized businesses are the lifeblood of our national economy.  Their vitality and success are the foundation of Canada’s long-term prosperity,” said MP Allen on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency). “That is why projects like the one undertaken by Les Fermes Gervais Ltée are also, in fact, an investment in the prosperity of our communities, our citizens and their families.”

“Our investment will enable Les Fermes Gervais to continue growing and creating jobs in the region,” said Soucy, on behalf of the Honourable Paul Robichaud, minister of Economic Development. “Creating new opportunities and economic growth in northern New Brunswick is central to our plan to rebuild New Brunswick.”

The project involves the purchase of new equipment to increase the productivity and efficiency of the company’s seed potato processing and shipping operation.  It includes the purchase of a potato sizer, conveyors, a rock eliminator, a roller table, a divider table, an electric forklift and a holding tank.

The Government of Canada is providing a repayable contribution of $132,000, and the Province of New Brunswick is investing $110,000 into the project.
